What Have I Been Doing? By T.G. Brown

Sick mostly. This year has been the worst as far as getting sick is concerned. I’ve
been ill a total of four times already. At this rate I’m expecting to be sick once a month
until the end of the year. It’s okay… I promise I’m not freaking out about my health.
Everything’s okay, yep, all good…
Anyway, I wanted to write a blog for all of you that subscribed to my author
website that gives a little glimpse behind the books. So… here we go!
I’ve finished writing Cut Them Down! Some of you know that already since you
got an advanced reader copy before anyone else. For those that don’t know, Cut Them
Down, is my first western novel! It will be dedicated to my father because of the shared
love we both have for the genre. I have some of my best memories with my dad when
watching a western movie, or when we used to read stories together about the Wild
West when I was a child.
Next on the agenda is the novella that’s in the works. It should be getting its first
round of edits in the near future. It will be about twin Native American brothers, Anakin
and Mato. The pair get wrapped up in the life of crime and we learn about the first time
they were arrested for murder. It is best summarized as a prison/survival thriller. More
details will come out in the near future about this project. I can’t wait to share it!
Life as a detective/cop has been interesting as always. My lovely wife, Ashley,
thinks that the job is causing me undue stress which is lowering my immune system.
Hence why I’ve been getting sick so often.
She might be right. The job takes a toll after eleven years. I often think of the
child abuse and sexual assault investigations, hoping I did everything right by the victims involved. These cases grab a hold of you and it’s a hard thing to move on from. I
suppose over time I’ll figure it out, just like anyone else.
In more positive news I was the fittest author in the world! (In the sport of
CrossFit) - So I’m healthy but then I’m not? I don’t know anymore.
I still train six-seven days a week combining martial arts and CrossFit. Although,
this week, like the others when I was sick, it became more of a five day training week.
Martial arts has been fun, I’ve been focusing more on striking based disciplines such as,
Muay Thai, Boxing, and Krav Maga.
It’s a unique group of people who train in these disciplines. I mean, we go from
punching each other one minute, to hugging each other after the round is done. Most
people think we’re insane, and maybe we are, but I find it fun.
I low-key use my martial arts training as an excuse to do “research” as an author.
I’m getting some great material to write some explosive fight scenes in future books.
One guy I trained with made a joke after a sparring round. He’s also a reader of the
Warren Lawson books and said, “Man, I can’t wait for you to describe that move in one
of your books.” We both shared a good laugh.
One more piece of exciting news is that I’m going through the audiobook portion
of Cut Them Down. The narrator, Joe Cassidy, has already recorded three hours of the
novel! For those that enjoy a good audiobook, he’s an extremely talented narrator and
he adds a whole new level to the story.
I’ve been staying busy, but I also wanted to thank all of you for subscribing to my
author website. It’s important to Ashley and I that we build a special community here,
and each of you are a huge part of that! I couldn’t be more grateful. Subscribe to T.G. Brown author email list by clicking here if you haven't already.
The days where I’m sick, or feeling a bit down, I think of my career as an author
and all the great connections I’ve made through these books. It keeps me going!
Now, most author websites have a lot of newsletters and things of that nature.
That’s all well and good, but I want to hear from all of you! What’s a topic you’d like me
to write about? Send us an email at www.tgbrownbooks@gmail.com, post a comment on the blog! I’m all ears. Let’s make this a fun conversation between all of us.
T.G. Brown.
